This blogspace chronicles the ups and downs of our house renovation project in Vale de Prazeres, Portugal from first purchase in November 2019.

On the assumption that the floor would be installed in time, we placed a significant order with IKEA for delivery on Wednesday 11th, the email confirmed the date and promised a time between 9am and 7pm. Given the size of the order, four large furniture units, three smaller furniture items and a load of wardrobe cabinets, we hoped that the order would arrive in the afternoon at latest.

The delay with the supply of the laminate flooring gave some breathing room to complete the walls and ceilings without having to rush.
Though it still wasn't finished until after delivery of the flooring and in reality is not fully finished yet.

Work has been going on with the renovation.
After a few more slow weeks, the flooring has arrived so it was time to up the tempo a little and get on with it as we wanted to get the painting done before installing the new flooring - sounds like a good idea.

Finally, after a long wait, the email that we had been hoping for has arrived telling us that the new windows and door were ready.

After yet another significant delay in updating the site we are now back with some more stories and pictures.

Yes, it's been a very long time since the last post and we apologise yet again.

The grand space that was our upper level has been slowly closing in with the construction of the wall framing.
Now I am able to get the plasterboard fitted and the space is closing up even more.

After a long break from using the computer I decided it was time to update the status of our project and other things.

After a mistake ordering the materials (I forgot some things off the list), I finally have all the required metalwork to frame out the ceiling.

After a two week delay, the first batch of materials for the walls in the upstairs area had arrived and it is time to start building.
This section of the project is going to be way more complex than the kitchen and even the tray ceiling in the back room - but why make things easy if they can be difficult.

Back in December we ordered a new double door set for the back room. The old steel doors were a poor fit, let in water when it rained and were beginning to rust in various places.

Just a week after the new floor/ceiling was finished, the concrete is nicely cured and we are ready to commence work on the new walls in the upper level.
The first batch of materials is on order and we are awaiting delivery.

Four days of serious hard work (for those doing the work anyway) has brought the new floor to reality. The concrete surface was poured yesterday and it will take at least a few days to cure.
It is so nice to have a flat and level floor in the old building.

Even though the weather has really dampened things down, the delivery of materials makes us think that we are on the way forward with the project.
Whilst demolition is great fun, the construction is the exciting part.

The work started on February 1st to replace the floor in the old part of the house. As agreed, the guys turned up at around 08:30 and, after unloading the tools and equipment, began tearing the place apart.
