After the fairly plain sailing during the tile removal last week, this week has been much less of a breeze.
It has been quite frustrating in fact, with unexpected occurrences at every turn.

We have finally reached the last room in the house for renovation.
It is true to say that the bathroom was the 'nicest' room when we bought the house, but it now looks old and tired compared to the rest of the house.

A few weeks ago the gate post for the back gate was built and, at the end of February, we ordered the gate.
With the weather drying up a bit last week I managed to get the post painted.

It has been some time since the last update on the back room. Very little has happened over the past couple of years except for a little furniture rearrangement.
Because of the damp, miserable weather, the recent decorating activity has now extended to the back room.

At long last, the new stairs are all finished and decorated.
A feat that I am proudly smug about.

With great pleasure, we announce that the stairs to the dungeon are very nearly complete.
Looking much better with the granite linings hiding the crumbly cement surface.

We know things go slowly here in Portugal and I'm sure this is no record.
Originally ordered in April, the garden wall coping stones and pillar caps have finally arrived.

At long last, we have a fully usable guest suite.
The last part of the work, the curtains, arrived and have now been fitted.

One last bit of tiling was needed to finish the steps down to the guest suite door.
The original step down to the door was too high for safety, so I had to create an intermediate step.

With the hot weather and the lack of water flow in the pond, the water has become very green and thick.
It was time to change the water and clean the silt from the bottom of the pond.

The work has taken longer than hoped, just like most of the other jobs, but we are very near to completion of the guest suite.
The curtains have been ordered for a couple of weeks and should arrive by the middle of September.

Finally, the rear patio tiling is complete.
But I suspect that there is a little more tiling to do at the front of the house.

We recently took a trip to Castelo Branco in search of items to finish the bathroom.
Some towel hangers, a toilet brush, a soap dispenser, towels, etc.

After two years of working around, and walking on the stairwell cover, we recently opened it up to access the dungeon.
Although we still need to source and install the granite risers and treads, the stairs are perfectly useable with care.

The painting of the exterior of the house is now done.
Because the weather has been so warm we were limited to working later in the day when the sun had passed round the house.
