At long last, the new stairs are all finished and decorated.

A feat that I am proudly smug about.

Having collected the pieces of rodapé from RMM I set about cutting and shaping the various parts to trim and embellish the stairway.

Because the stairs are not simple I had to be creative to achieve the correct look.

The inner part of the stair turn was a little more complicated.

The lower flight was a slightly simpler task.

After the tiling, we painted the walls with a pale yellow colour that brings some warmth to the space.

Lastly, as you see in the images, the wallpaper was hung. This was not a trivial task because of the sloping ceiling and limited space in the enclosed staircase. Another challenge was the longest wallpaper drop I have ever tackled, at 5.4m (almost 18 feet) it is more than half a roll of paper, but with careful planning and a little patience, it all happened without incident.

Annoyingly, when we first ordered the wallpaper some months ago, I had estimated that we would need five rolls then when the 'expert' from the shop came to measure the space he said we would need 6 rolls - so six were ordered. The reality of the job has left us with two whole rolls and a couple of reasonable lengths spare. (I do have a plan to make use of that though)

Nevertheless, the final result looks great.

And finally, with some of Janet's artwork re-hung in the stairwell, it is even better.

We still have to locate a manufacturer or supplier for the handrail and barrier that we want for the top of the stairs so, until then, we continue with the chunky OSB board barrier to prevent accidents.
