As we had been without a bath for such a long time, we decided to splash out and install a spa bath in our new bathroom.
With hindsight, buying from BigMat can not be recommended.
When we ordered the bathroom items we were given a timescale of 3 weeks for delivery. After four weeks I started enquiring, it took five weeks to get just the shower tray after I went to the shop and collected it. Another week went by before we received the bath and shower screen. I even had to tell them to deliver these, they thought I would be collecting them - a bath !!
We ordered the other bathroom furniture and fittings from our preferred supplier, RMM in Fundão. And, although the bath tap was delayed because it was a special item, we received these in pretty good time.
The toilet and bidet were easy to install, and the shower unit was no problem also. There were no real issues with the wash basin unit, things were now going well.
For the bath install, I would need to build a small 'box' to accommodate the plumbing to the bath. It would have been too awkward and time consuming to try and put the pipework into the wall as it would normally be. To do this task I need the bath tap to ensure it is located in the correct place.
Eventually, the bath tap arrived and I could make progress.
With the box fitted to the wall, the plumbing connected, and the tiling finished to match the wall we now have a completed bathroom.
At last.
Because the room is quite spacious we decided that a large wash basin would go nicely. This is a 100cm wide unit and provides a lot of storage space below.
The pièce de résistance is a mirror which has been hand-crafted by Janet using a plain mirror glass, a backing board, and the leftover mosaic tiles from the kitchen we installed all those years ago.
It has been the usual struggle, fraught with delays, but the final result is worth the effort.
With Summer being just around the corner we will have to wait a few months to see how good the under-floor heating unit is.
