Having tried a number of photo album plugin modules to display our photos it became apparent that none were really suitable. They all required that every image had to be copied to the web server with images converted to numerous 'thumbnails' so that the system could display them on the browser.
Having already spent significant time and effort organising the images within the filesystem this seemed to be counterproductive and also a waste of disk space with the only benefit being that the original files are kept separate from the web interface.
Fortunately, the Synology Diskstation provides an application for organising and presenting our photos and video clips to the waiting public so we decided to make use of that.
