This year's main Summer holiday was a combination of experiences.
As usual, a punishing schedule of travel and sightseeing was planed.

Once again, Christmas comes around. It seems only moments since the last.
This year, we travelled to the U.K. for an extended break to see family and friends.

We had an extended weekend break, away for my birthday in early October.
This time, we visited Peniche, a small peninsula town on the coast, about 35km South of Nazaré.

For our wedding anniversary, we often take a trip somewhere.
2025 was no exception; we took a trip to visit some Roman ruins in central Portugal.

Our final day in Rome was spent exploring some places that we had not visited previously.
Our evening flight to Lisbon meant that we'd have almost the whole day out and about.

The fourth day was a late start. We had tickets to visit the Vatican later in the day.
After travelling to the city and looking around, we toured the Castel Sant'Angelo, which is situated at the end of the via leading to the Vatican.

After a long, long break from posting blog entries, we're back, and it's time to catch up.
With quite a bit going on, most of it very slowly, towards the end of last year, there was little effort put into the blog.

Day three in Rome. A visit to the Pantheon, Piazza Navona, and the Spanish Steps.
Plus, a difficult choice for lunchtime dessert.

The second full day of our itinerary was a visit to the Colosseum and the Forum archaeological site.
The metro took us directly to the Colosseum, where you step out of the station facing the massive structure.

The second week of our holiday was spent in Rome, the capital city of Italy.
We had travelled from Naples by train, which took a little over two hours.

Following recent holidays, our suitcases have suffered from being dragged across the cobbled streets of Lisbon and Porto.
And the last holiday to Italy was too much for them.

Once again, the wildfires are springing up all over the country.
A large fire is spreading across the land just 20km from our location.

Our final full day in Naples.
This time, walking out and further up the hillside meant that we could finally walk downhill to the hotel.

After a long day trekking around a volcano and a historic archaeological site, we planned a less energetic day.
A visit to the national museum and then a stroll around the shops in the city.

The second full day of our holiday in Naples was a prebooked excursion to Mount Vesuvius and the town of Pompeii.
Armed with the camera and water bottles, we walked from the hotel to the meeting point near the railway station. Much easier than walking up the hill.
