Our final day in Rome was spent exploring some places that we had not visited previously.

Our evening flight to Lisbon meant that we'd have almost the whole day out and about.

One of the most impressive 'modern' buildings in Rome is the Victor Emmanuel II Monument, celebrating the unification of Italy and its first king.

Over the centuries, the city has grown around the ancient structures, making it almost impossible to miss how the early Romans really changed the world with their incredible building skills. That so much of the original works is still visible and standing is a true testament to them.

But the holiday is virtually over.

We had a great time in Naples and Rome. There was so much more that we could have seen.

After checking out of the hotel, we took the metro to a rail station at the North end of the city, and then a normal train all the way back to the South-Western side near thecoast, where the airport is situated.

Our evening flight was only slightly delayed, but we arrived in Lisbon in good time to check into our final hotel of the holiday.

After a hearty breakfast, we got a train direct to Vale de Prazeres.
