Overnight the wind had picked up greatly, we could hear things falling over and being blown around on the ceiling, which is now effectively the roof. A trip to the bathroom involved dodging clouds of dust and other rubbish falling though the gaps in the boards. Such fun, especially the sharp stones on the floor.

Today the team arrived with the welder guy and got off to a start. Firstly cutting the beams to size and then welding sections together to span the whole roof.

Having seen the lengths of steel that they had brought I was wondering what the plan was. The steel tube is 20cm x 10cm section and about 8.2m long once welded together, looks pretty heavy but the guys just manhandled these up to the roof using the lower part of the house round the back as a staging point, inconceivable back in the UK due to H&S policy.

For some crazy reason I was expecting a crane to show up.

So, after another day of hard labour the framing is in place, the beams are held by lengths of 12mm re-bar welded in strategic places, ready for the concrete collar to be poured and secure the whole structure.

We are assured that the covering should be in place by the end of the week, in time for the predicted rains.
