Now that the floor is finished it´s time to make the walls nice. The plan is to install a false wall and actually insulate the cavity which should help keep the warmth in during Winter and keep some of the heat out in Summer.

We had the materials delivered a couple of days ago in the pouring rain, what fun that was.

The metal framing is pretty easy to install, the cheap aviation snips that I got from the China shop are perfectly good enough to cut the sheet metal and should last through this job. Much faster and cleaner than a hacksaw.

The floor is fairly level but the new tiles are very hard to drill through, making it slow going. Unfortunately the ceiling is not very level which makes the process a little more awkward with the channel profile warping at every opportunity when fixing it in place, but at least the drill cuts holes easily.

Here is the result of today's works.

To ensure the walls are strong enough to support the upper wall cabinets when we get the kitchen fitted I have doubled the uprights (´H´ pattern) and plan to install ¾" backing boards between them to secure the cabinets with confidence. Next stage is constructing the frame along the wall with the windows and door, which should be interesting. Lots of first time experiences in this project.

Working around the pile of materials is a little frustrating but there really is nowhere else to store the plasterboard to keep it dry(ish).
