Finally, the rear patio tiling is complete.

But I suspect that there is a little more tiling to do at the front of the house.

Yes, the grouting and tidying up of the drain channel is finished at last.

Another task checked off and when the rain returns to our area we should hopefully see less water ingress to the lower part of the house. With the relentless hot weather the granite walls inside are drying out very well which will be ideal to apply the sealant/glaze later in the year.

But the rear patio looks fine.

A further addition to the furniture is a sun-shade parasol, on sale at half price sale seems like an ideal opportunity to buy one.

Sitting out in the sunshine is excellent - for about 10 minutes, and it then becomes unbearable. This large brolly should cover a small to medium size table and anyone sitting around it.

  • Looks great Rick!

Isn´t the draining-gutter around the house also called a "French drain" in English?

Anyway: I have read some other posts too and you seem to be closing in to the finalization-stage, but as with me I guess your to-do list is only growing and growing because of new ideas that come-up while working on the old list... Like: the more I know, the more I know what I don't know. I guess they're never be an end to this story...

    • A French drain is different, that method is basically a perforated pipe (usually plastic but sometimes clay), buried in the ground surrounded with coarse aggregate, to collect the water and direct it away. We do have that in the ground at each end of the house where the land has a slope (on the roadside and at the end of the kitchen). But at the back of the house, the drain is simply a gutter set in cement which prevents the water from getting into the ground. Along with the floor tiles, this should allow less moisture into the house from underneath - remember that some inside floors are below the outside ground level.

The end is still a long way away, we have plenty of things to finish which rely on other people or businesses. The list is almost infinite.
