With the significant delay in getting the roof repairs started we decided to make some headway with Janet's formal garden at the back of the house. It is currently just a jumble of soil, concrete, granite boulders and other detritus.

Our plan is to create a border garden with a terraced patio area towards the house.

As the land slopes towards the house it is obvious that drainage will be an issue but we will have to sort that out once the roof is fixed and then level the land. However, the border garden can be started.

We (Janet !) dug a trench for the concrete wall footing and then we built a small wall to retain the soil for a level planting area. There is still a bit to do and then it needs rendering and painting, as is the norm here.

After back-filling the space with soil from in front we should start to see the main area levelling off ready for some form of patio (yet to be decided). Also, a small ornamental pond is in the plan at the moment.

Watch this space!
