More than two weeks since the house purchase. We have been doing quite a bit of work, mostly investigation, working out how and why what was done, was done! Some things are a little confusing, not how we would have done it back in UK.

I started digging out a channel under the floor to supply water and electricity to the location where Janet's kitchen island will be. I guessed the route of the drain from where the sink originally was and started opening up the floor. Not a bad guess where the red 'sharpie' lines are ...

So now the game is on, we can definitely have the kitchen island and the plan takes shape. Now to find the correct plumbing items to connect into this 60mm diameter pvc pipe.

Tiles are coming up pretty easily.

I wondered what this light switch was operating, it is located behind the door. It didn't seem to have any effect in the house so I opened it up to see if it was wired up.

And it is ... 2 core plus Earth flexible cable with the Earth used as one of the strappers in a two way switch arrangement, brilliant.

Turns out that it is connected to a 500w halogen spotlight inside the workshop.   Oh yes, the workshop ...

At the moment, completely full of stuff. Imagine my garage in Macclesfield but 10 times as big. It's dark and spacious, the 'phone camera doesn't give a good picture. I have an office, a bathroom, lots of storage, metal stock, tools and workbenches. Even four welding machines, though I don't know if any of them work. And the pièce de résistance, an industrial size compressor ...

Of course, the workshop has to be cleared out by the previous owners before I can make proper use of it and I really have to make the house habitable as a priority.

Snooping around, I found an uncoiled electrical extension reel on the floor of the workshop.

Something tells me I'm going to need to be extra careful until I get everything up to spec.
