As I like to craft with wood I decided to have a go at making my own bass guitar. Here pictured alongside the Yamaha, is my jazz-style fretless bass made by my own fair hands. I didn't make the neck, it was harvested from an old Peavey Millennium bass guitar which I bought for £25, but it is now very thin and smooth after I worked on it for some time.

The body is solid Zebrano wood which I cut to the classic Fender Jazz shape using plans for the 'Jaco' model. Equipped with Wilkinson pickups and a pre-built tone/volume control set which allows for a switchable tone capacitor and pull/push parallel/series configuration it has a range of tones.

The string through design and individual bridge setup makes this definitely not a Fender Jazz.

To protect the neck I chose Rotosound black tape-wound strings which give smooth gliding along the strings.

It does retain that wah-wah fretless sound. I think it plays well but I would like a professional opinion at some stage.
