Now that the driveway entrance is finished and the gates installed, it is time to make the driveway useable.

This can only be done if the border between the driveway and the garden is properly defined.

The calceteiro had already provided a quote for laying the granite cubes in the driveway, so we just have to prepare the site.

At the house side of the driveway we have constructed a series of concrete 'steps' which will support planting boxes for Janet's cactus collection. The images show the boxes positioned to show the effect and to indicate the sizes, the final construction will be more permanent.

The two spaces between the containers will eventually have a basic garden bench to provide a resting place while walking up and down the driveway.

To delimit the garden from the driveway we decided that a simple step or wall would be rather bland.

Accordingly, some more planting space is being created for Janet to populate with pretty flowers and make the garden even more attractive.

I was making good progress with the work but, unfortunately, the weather has suddenly changed to wet and miserable and so the bricklaying is paused.

Just a couple more courses of blocks to place on the lower section and one more course on the upper level to create a nice terraced planting area.

The garden side of the driveway is then ready for the cobbles to be installed.

The rain has arrived for a few days and the work is postponed, I took the opportunity to grab some photographs during a lull in the rain.

The forecast shows worse weather tomorrow so I suspect the work will be some time before completion.
