After the success of last year's sunflowers, we had some self-seeded plants appear in the flower bed. Quite a number in fact!.

Earlier in the year Janet relocated some of the seedlings nearer to the back wall and removed a lot of others. Since then they have grown nicely.

Reaching new heights, Janet now has to get onto the railway station car park to reach the highest blooms.

Here is one of the nicer flower heads.

I am sure that the goldfinches will be around to gorge on the seeds before too long.

Of course, the flower beds are not just for sunflowers, here are some of Janet's other flowers.

Yet another plant that we introduced was a passion fruit (maracujá).

Bought as a small stick with just a few leaves, and planted earlier in the year, we simply hoped it would survive.

We didn't notice any flowers appearing on the plant so it was a huge surprise to find a fruit growing behind one of the leaves.

Just one, but that really is a great start.
