Since originally ordering new windows and a door for the kitchen back in January we ave been in touch regularly with the manufacturers.

They keep promising that someone will visit the house and take measurements (because they assume that I cannot use a tape measure).

Finally a young lad turned up on Monday, without the prior telephone call which they insisted would happen. Luckily I was there at the house building my new workbench and waiting for our delivery of ovens - to install in our non-existent kitchen.

The guy could speak some English, but that is not a problem as I know what we want. Worryingly, he had no idea what we wanted, even though we had already received their quotation based upon measurements provided by us. He duly took the measurements, which were the same as those provide by us in January, which came as some relief to me, though he didn't see the funny side of it.

So, now we are looking at a further three weeks for the new windows to be fitted. Things are beginning to drag seriously.

The wood delivery had arrived over a week ago, some of it was for the kitchen walls to add support for the cabinets - when they eventually arrive, but the bulk of the wood was to construct a workbench to make my life easier. The old 550mm wide kitchen worktop that was re-purposed from the house is simply too small and too high.

I made a start on Monday and finished it on Tuesday. It's not a work of art but built from irregular sized timber using mostly hand tools I don't think it is too bad, it is certainly functional.

Here is the frame before the lower cross rails have been cut and fitted.

Here is the finished article, 2500mm x 1250mm working surface and a shelf to keep tools off the floor.
