Ok, the roof is finally, still almost done. Rather, the roof itself is actually finished it is just a matter of installing the gutters and downspouts when the time is right. No pictures yet because the rain began falling just before the guys completed their work, then it got dark.  Amanhã, as they say!

I suppose we should be asking for a rainstorm to test the 'fixes' made to the roof since the heavy rains last week.

Anyway, I spent most of the the day inside helping pull down the ceiling to open up the upstairs space, the Portuguese disregard for health and safety is quite worrying at times but I always maintain that you need to look after your own safety while working - that´s how it goes here, even while balanced 7 feet up on a 6" wide wall, wielding a chainsaw with timbers crashing down all around.

The woodwork is all down, much of it already launched out of the window into the garden but a great pile remains strewn around the rooms up there.

The space is looking more cathedral like and will be even more impressive once the brick walls are removed - a task for the rest of this week, or even longer I suspect.
