Once again the day dawns bright and clear.
Although chilly overnight the days are nice and warm in the sunshine. Last weekend we decided to take a trip to Serra da Estrela, apparently so did everyone else in Portugal !!
Traffic was queued on a small road for about a mile or so at either side of the mountain. Cars parked anywhere, everywhere and coaches trying to manoeuver between lanes of cars, rock formations and deep ditches. We never made it to the car park, members of the GNR were directing traffic out of the site but not letting anyone in. It was looking pretty dire until we took advantage of another car blocking the traffic some way in front and made a hasty 'U' turn. A little way back down the road was a small parking area so we stopped there for a while. It was about 14° C when we left Fundão - it was (and felt like!) 4° C at this place.
Looking back down through the valley, this is still a good 200-300m below the summit of Serra de Estrela.
Looking up to a seemingly abandoned building somewhere into the snowy distance that we never managed to get to. We'll plan another visit during a weekday when it is likely to be less busy.
