With the excessive heat over the past week or so, things have been slow on the work front.
But the garden seems to have enjoyed the warmth.
Janet's cacti suddenly decided to pop with flowers. These begin stretching out over a few days, then open into magnificent flower heads for just one day, after which the flowers wither and die off. We are lucky to catch so many at the same time.
The beautiful internals of the flower, which identifies it as a true cactus.
Meanwhile, around back, in the fishpond, the goldfish continue to increase in number. We try to count them, but it is almost impossible.
I even managed to capture a red dragonfly in the photo as it was zooming from side to side over the pond.
The tall plants we introduced to the pond last year are preparing to bloom.
They didn't flower last year, and we are interested to see how they turn out.
The other plants have already opened up. These did flower last year after we placed them in the pond.
The honeysuckle is growing like a weed, even though it was only planted earlier this year.
These, still unnamed, plants were huge last year, and look likely to be even more prolific this time. They started growing on the driveway, after we lifted the old concrete, and they were obviously not typical weeds, so Janet moved them into the flowerbed.
Not a bad recovery after being buried under concrete for many, many years.
