Not the same St. Valentine's Day as celebrated in other countries.
As part of the festivities in Lisbon, there is a whole day dedicated to Santo António.
13th June is the day, everyone is involved, it is a local holiday and the celebrations go long into the night.
It just happened to be during our Portuguese course so there were no classes, we had a whole day to explore parts of the city that we had never been to previously.
There were entries from many of the districts of Lisbon, it seems that there is a competition to present the most colourful exhibition and the theme of swaying and twirling skirts (for the ladies) appears to be common throughout.
Here is a short mobile 'phone clip of one of the displays.
The costumes were all very impressive.
It is a shame that I forgot to pick up my camera before we left to see the event. Although the mobile 'phone images are ok, the proper camera would have done a better job.
Maybe we will visit this celebration again in the future.
